Student Council
Our Student Council is a service learning experience in which members learn to be leaders by working with their peers developing projects that actually meet the needs of the community and having a real say in the planning and execution of the projects. The components of their service learning are preparation, action, and reflection. Reflective questioning takes place throughout the projects in order to facilitate thought and growth in the students. By learning to establish clear goals and utilize thorough planning, their experiences will result in not only an effective and lasting impact on our student’s desire to service their community, but they will grow self-confident too. At P.S. 29, we believe that good character truly is the key to success. If our students learn to be selfless and think of others first, they will feel good about themselves. The students begin to develop good character through all of our good deeds and “Paying It Forwards” projects. Our councils model good leadership skills, that facilitate a learning environment by their displays of good character and behavior which feeds and nourishes their hearts and minds. In this way, we hope to create a school of leaders of good character who will become productive citizens. All of this happens through the stages of development as leaders on our council.
