BRIDGE Council

Bengals. Responsible. In. Doing. Good. Everywhere.

Bridge is a program where Kids Inspire Diverse Socialization. We started this program as a way to help eliminate the social and emotional gap between kindergarten-new students and fifth graders. Our newest students receive a “Big Bengal” upon beginning their prime year at P.S.29 to make for an easy transition across the “bridge.” These veterans act as bridge builders (mentors) to our Bengal cubs to help guide them and support them during their first year, teaching them respect and acceptance for all. Having our Big Bengals investing in and building relationships with our new Bengal family members allows for positive growth, easy transition, and fosters healthy and happy interpersonal relationships. As our Bengal cubs begin a new journey, it can be very frightening. Having that one person who acts as their support can make all the difference. This not only teaches our Bengal cubs Respect for All, it is a reminder to our fifth grade students that as they cross over every new bridge they need to remember the integral lesson of paying it forward to all. By working together, they will learn together, and succeed together to carry out our core values of Respect: Responsibility, Empathy, Sensitivity, Perseverance, co-Existing, Community, and Togetherness.
